These are but a few of the true-to-life habitats at the Kansas City Zoo. Stretching over 200 acres in Swope Park, the Zoo offers visitors the unique experience of seeing wild animals Kenyan grasslands. A Tanzanian hillside. A Congolese forest. The Australian Outback.

See elephants trundle down a Botswanian corridor. Stand toe-to-toe with a mob of free-roaming kangaroos. Hand feed a lorikeet from the tropical rainforest. Marvel at one of North America’s finest chimpanzee exhibits. Delight at the antics of a 1-year-old eastern black rhinoceros.

Along with its marvelous animal collection, the Zoo prides itself on outstanding educational opportunities – including overnight safaris – for children, families and classrooms.

The Zoo also features Kansas City’s only IMAX® theater. The IMAX experience is the world’s most powerful and involving film experience. With breathtaking images up to seven stories tall and wrap-around 12,000-watt digital sound, IMAX technology takes you to places only imagined.

HOURS: From March 1 to October 31,
Open daily from 9:30am to 5pm.
From November 1 to February 28,
Open daily from 10am to 4pm.

Saint Louis Zoo
Saint Louis, Missouri.

The Saint Louis Zoo has more than 5,000 animals and is a leader in natural exhibits and wildlife preservation. Moreover, the zoo sponsors lots of fun events throughout the year, and it's free. Since it's in Forest Park, you can hit the zoo and then take a stroll through the art museum, the World's Fair Pavilion or one of the park's many hiking trails.

While you're at the zoo, there's plenty to explore. The zoo covers more than 90 acres, including the River's Edge, where visitors can follow a waterway and watch cheetahs, elephants and hyenas. Stop by the Living World where nature and technology meet for an educational experience.

Summer hours:
(Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day)
8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission to the Zoo is FREE
Although there are fees for some attractions.
