In 2001, African Safari Wildlife Park was awarded Accreditation by the American Association of Zoo's and Aquariums (AZA), joining only 213 other AZA accredited institutions within the United States.
Bill Coburn, Director and Joan Druyor, Supervisor of Mammals both have extensive experience, including travel and education throughout the U.S. and around the world.
The Hunt brothers started their first business together in Detroit in 1958. It was a little pet shop in Michigan that grew into several stores with some very unusual animals. They formed a new company called International Animal Exchange Inc., with Brian Hunt as president and Tom Hunt as vice-president.
In 1973 International Animal Exchange took over management of the animal park in Port Clinton, Ohio. African Safari Wildlife Park is a crucial element to International Animal Exchange as a facility that showcases endangered species and assists IAE with the compliance of major contracts with other facilities around the world. As an example IAE has shipped animals to Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and has even helped relocate animals back into the wilds of Africa.
